The Discreet Charm of the Short Film

  • The Old Post Office – Riverview Room 12 Water Street South Cambridge, ON, N1R 3C5 Canada (map)

This event is presented in collaboration with Idea Exchange and Cambridge Art Galleries.

Like the short story, the short-film is a genre in itself rather than a fragment of a bigger work. Short films can tell big stories with great economy, in very little time: brevity is the soul of wit. We will watch and discuss a selection of short gems, some of them Canadian, and hope to increase our appreciation of this lovely and underestimated art form. Watching short films will perhaps encourage participants to think about creating their own first short. Everyone who loves movies is welcome.

Instructor:
A graduate of the Canadian Film Centre, Isabella Stefanescu has written and produced several interactive screen projects and award winning short films based on micro-narratives. She is a painter, animator, digital artist, producer, and past artistic director of Inter Arts Matrix, our local incubator of interdisciplinary works of art.

About the Workshop Series:
These workshops are a collaboration between Inter Arts Matrix, Idea Exchange, and Cambridge Art Galleries. They are funded by operating grants from the City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo, Ontario Arts Council Media Arts Projects, and the City of Cambridge as part of our on-going film series. Join us on the third Wednesday of every month to learn how to make films!
