FAQs

  • IAM works with artists, scientists, technicians and communities to research, develop, produce and present new works that cross the boundaries between, and combine art forms, science, craft and technology.

  • IAM is the only arts organization in Ontario with a mandate to foster the development of interdisciplinary or integrated art. While other arts organizations emphasize the presentation of art, IAM focuses on supporting the artist through the entire creation process. Since 2007, we have worked with artists at varying stages of their career, presented numerous public events and worked with diverse community partners from across Canada.

  • "Interdisciplinary art is the integration and transformation of distinct art forms that creates a new form." - Rachel Von Frossen, 2007

  • Composers, choreographers, visual artists, writers, performance artists, photographers, filmmakers, dancers, playwrights, musicians, actors, technicians, directors, craftspeople, archivists, inventors, software developers, physicists, philosophers, carpenters, theologians, psychologists, ethicists, academics, engineers, architects, scientists and electricians. Interdisciplinary art is, by its very nature, collaborative. Sometimes we work alone, but most often we work as a team of people from several fields combining our talents towards a common goal: to create a work of art.

  • Interdisciplinary art can take place in traditional venues such as concert halls, theatres, galleries and schools, but is just as likely to happen in public space or have a virtual existence online. Integrated art can migrate around the city or internet to intersect with any geographic location and audiences of any cultural orientation.Item description
