Open Call For Artists - EchoTerra: Snyder’s Flats Creation Residency
Open Call For Artists - EchoTerra: Snyder’s Flats Creation Residency
Application Deadline: Monday, July 7th until 11:59pm.
The Inter Arts Matrix is seeking three ‘new generation’ artists to participate in ‘EchoTerra: A Snyder’s Flats Creation Residency’.
EchoTerra is an interdisciplinary art experiment with a focus on multi-discipline collaboration and connecting emerging artists to one another and to the land and environment they create on.
Taking place in Snyder’s Flats, a 100-hectare former gravel pit that has been restored as a natural area with ponds, new forests, grasslands and other features, three emerging artists will create new work in their respective disciplines in response to their shared experience of collaborating in the environment. Led by community music and arts facilitator, Mason Smyth, the artists will be prompted to reflect on their own artistic practice in relation to their shared natural surroundings and diverse disciplines, gaining new perspectives that inform their work, inspire creative exploration, and foster strong connections with local artists they may not have otherwise engaged with.
Over three days, immersed in the serenity of Snyder’s Flats, these new generation artists will create their responsive works to later be presented at a public exhibition event hosted in the Inter Arts Matrix gallery space. The exhibition event will feature the artists’ presentations of their work and a panel discussion reflecting on the experience altogether. There will also be a mini documentary screening showcasing the artists’ creative process during the residency and a presentation of a musical composition by Mason Smyth, created by thematically coding the shared experiences and resulting works of the three artists and musically interpreting the data.
The intent of the exhibition is to draw in audiences from diverse local sectors of the arts community, strengthening the connections between disciplines to foster a more collaborative and dynamic creative region that encourages cross-disciplinary dialogue, innovation, and cultural exchange.
If you are an artist who is looking to broaden your horizons with cross-disciplinary collaboration, challenge your creative methods, make new friends and connect with nature, then this project may be a great experience for you.
Compensation & Copyright
Each artist will be paid a total of $1,120 for 16 hours of their time.
Although artists will be commissioned by the Inter Arts Matrix to produce original works, the copyright of the works created will remain under the ownership of their respective artists with the understanding that those works will be derived to create a musical composition and documentary film.
